Description from the seller
The historic flag of North Vietnam (Socialist Republic of Vietnam).
The red field symbolizes the bloody sacrifices and the revolutionary struggle for independence, while the yellow star represents the unity of the five social groups in Vietnam: workers, peasants, intellectuals, youth, and soldiers.
The flag was first used in 1940 by the Viet Minh, the communist resistance movement led by Hồ Chí Minh, in their struggle against the French colonial power and later the Japanese occupation. On September 2, 1945, at the proclamation of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in Hanoi, this flag was officially adopted as the national flag of North Vietnam.
During the Vietnam War (1955–1975) it was the symbol of North Vietnam and of the struggle against South Vietnam and the United States. After the reunification of North and South Vietnam in 1976, the flag was adopted as the official flag of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and has since been the national flag of the entire country.
This specific specimen, with its hand-sewn star and traditional fabric, points to an edition from the Vietnam War period (the 1960s–70s), as often used in political demonstrations or military contexts.
Size: 96 x 138 cm
