Description from the seller

Magnificent poster by Sebastião Salgado from a photograph belonging to his work "Amazonia".

This poster shows a creek eroding the rocky bed in the Imeri mountains, in the state of Amazonas, in the northwest of Brazil. Sebastião Salgado took this photo during his more-than-7-years-long project for the Amazônia collection. The poster is printed on high-quality paper and bears Salgado's name (blind stamp) and the title Amazônia.

Sebastião Salgado (Aimorés, Minas Gerais, Brazil, February 8, 1944) is a Brazilian sociodocumentary photographer and photojournalist. Salgado has traveled to more than 100 countries for his photographic projects. Most of these have appeared in numerous publications and books. Traveling exhibitions of his work have been shown around the world. The gallerist Hal Gould regards Salgado as the best photographer of the early 21st century. He has received numerous international awards, including in 1998 the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts and in 1982 the W. Eugene Smith Award for Humanitarian Photography.

Sebastião Salgado’s images are not taken in haste, nor spontaneously. He needs time to build both the story of an image and the discourse of a series, which can take him several years. His work is slow-cooked, unhurried, with knowledge and dedication.

The work of this master of photography cannot be labeled with just two or three words, such as photojournalist or social photographer. It is so vast and with such an intense discourse that those labels fall short.

In his work there are undertones of economy, humanity, social and anthropological issues, advocacy, pain and, above all, incredibly, beauty and art where one could never imagine someone being capable of capturing it.

One of the most influential photographers of the 20th century alongside other photographers of his time such as: Ansel Adams, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Edward Weston, Robert Capa, Elliott Erwitt, Walter Evans, Philippe Halsman, Diane Arbus, Eve Arnold, Robert Doisneau, Herb Ritts, Josef Sudek, Robert Mapplethorpe, Richard Avedon, Annie Leibovitz, Steve McCurry, among many others.
