Large Chinese Jardinière – Canton – 20th Century – 49 x 50 x 49 cm
Impressive large Chinese jardinière from Canton (Guangzhou), dating to the 20th century.
This substantial black and white example is finely decorated with detailed battle scenes featuring mounted warriors, soldiers, and landscape elements including trees, rocks, and clouds. The decoration is executed in delicate monochrome line work on a soft celadon-toned ground.
A stylised geometric and calligraphic border decorates the upper section, framing the dynamic narrative scenes below and enhancing the overall balance of the piece.
