Description from the seller
Famous devotional icon. Lithographic image of the original drawing. Has some age. Probably from the 1940/50’s
This is a reproduction of the famous pen-and-ink drawing Praying Hands by the German artist Albrecht Dürer.
The original artwork, also known as Study of the Hands of an Apostle (Betende Hände), was created around 1508.
It was a preparatory sketch for the hands of an apostle in the central panel of the Heller Altarpiece, a triptych commissioned by Jakob Heller.
Dürer used a technique of black ink and white heightening on blue-colored paper.
The drawing is noted for its detailed depiction of the tendons and veins, and is thought to possibly depict Dürer's own hands, which may have shown signs of arthritis.
The original Albrecht Dürer drawing, known as "Praying Hands" (or Betende Hände), is located at the Albertina Museum in Vienna, Austria.
The work is a pen-and-ink drawing, created around 1508, using white heightening and black ink on blue-colored paper. It was a preparatory study for a figure in the central panel of the Heller Altarpiece, which was largely destroyed by fire in 1729.
Due to the fragility and age of the original drawing, a facsimile might be displayed to the public at times.
Condition is good. Some foxing. Laid down on thick paper.
