Typology: This is a manuscript of palm leaves dating to the late 19th century (often called Talapatra) or handmade paper, a traditional writing system used for millennia before the introduction of modern paper.
Content: These documents usually contain sutras, mantras or Buddhist or Hindu religious texts. They were essential tools for monks and practitioners for meditation, rituals and the preservation of sacred knowledge.
Structure: The rectangular leaves were incised with a stylus and then treated with natural pigments to make the writing legible. The "book" is protected by wooden covers that help preserve the fragile pages over time.
