Description from the seller

"Mélanges Philosophiques" is a work written by Jean Henri Samuel Formey, an 18th-century philosopher and writer, known for his contributions to the Enlightenment. This book, of which the image shows the title page, is Volume I and was published in 1754 in Leiden (Leiden) by the printer Élie Luzac fils.

Context of the author
Jean Henri Samuel Formey (1711-1797) was a Prussian intellectual of Huguenot origin, perpetual secretary of the Royal Academy of Sciences and Belles-Lettres of Berlin. He wrote numerous works on philosophy, theology and literature, often in a style accessible to a broad audience.

Probable content
The title "Mélanges Philosophiques" suggests a collection of essays or reflections on various philosophical subjects, in the encyclopedic spirit of the Enlightenment. These texts could address ethics, metaphysics, logic, or reflections on society.

Edition and rarity
The 1754 edition by Élie Luzac fils is a Dutch printing, which was common for spreading philosophical ideas sometimes controversial in a context more tolerant than in other European countries. Today, this work is considered rare and of interest to collectors and researchers in the history of ideas.
