Description from the seller

Finely cut 19th-century ivory panel in an elongated octagonal form, richly decorated with a central oval medallion in high relief.

The central scene shows a lively historical tableau with multiple figures in 17th-century attire.
The composition includes:
A kneeling figure in a gesture of supplication
Two armed men with muskets
A standing figure on a raised dais
Architectural background with a wooden palisade
Tree group with a bird motif above the scene

The whole is surrounded by graceful Rocaille ornament in symmetrical scroll motifs, executed in bas-relief.

The reverse shows fine saw marks, consistent with 19th-century processing of ivory plates.

Technique & style
Hand-cut ivory
High and low relief combined
Rococo-inspired framing
Historizing depiction
Probably Western European work Netherlands/France, circa 1850–1880.

Nice natural patina
Light discoloration consistent with age
No major cracks visible
Normal signs of aging
