DESCRIPTION :
In 'My dream', Ralf Altrieth opens an interior scene where images emerge freely, as in the unpredictable logic of a dream.
Created in 2017, in the heart of the 2016–2017 period which today is almost entirely integrated into private collections, this work belongs to a phase that has become rare on the market.
With its 73 x 60 cm format, the canvas offers a strong presence without being overpowering. It structures a wall, immediately catches the eye, and allows for a true immersion in the pictorial space.
The composition revolves around a dense central space, framed by a red border that acts as a threshold. Inside, the forms dialogue: stylized faces, triangular motifs, a hybrid figure with an almost totemic presence. The bright blue traverses the surface and creates a vibrant tension with the deep brown background.
The black lines, spontaneous and assertive, connect the elements like an instinctive handwriting. Nothing is fixed; everything seems in motion. The title 'My dream' does not explain—it invites. It opens a space for personal projection.
The medium, built up through overlays, transparencies, and successive layers, reveals a living construction. Some areas seem to emerge, others recede, as in the very process of the dream.
This work is particularly collectable: it concentrates several strong motifs characteristic of this period—stylized figures, gestural handwriting, the tension between figuration and abstraction—in a format ideal for integrating into a private collection. It constitutes a representative and accomplished piece of this phase that has become difficult to acquire.
Hung on the wall, it imposes a narrative and graphic presence that transforms the space into a visual territory.
An original work from 2017, expressive and structured, combining freedom of gesture with compositional strength.
Very good condition.
The frame visible in some photos is shown for illustration purposes.
BIOGRAPHY :
Ralf Altrieth (born 1966 in Heilbronn, Germany) is a painter and musician. Trained at the Nürtingen Academy of Fine Arts (1987–1989), he has developed for over thirty years a body of work marked by gestural expression and spontaneous pictorial writing. He has exhibited in France and Germany, notably at Galerie Hartmut Beck (Erlangen), MAC Paris and Galerie Théo de Seine (Paris). His work is rooted in an expressionist tradition where line and color become a form of intuitive writing.
