Description from the seller
Title: Bible of Filth
• Author / illustrator: Robert Crumb
• Year of publication: 2017 (revised and expanded English edition)
• Publisher: David Zwirner Books (and Scratch Books for some print orders)
• ISBN: 9781941701706 / 9789492117366 (different editions)
• Language: English
• Pages: ± 336
• Binding: Hardcover
• Format: small book size roughly 13.3 × 18.4 cm
• Content: black-and-white comics throughout the collection
This is not an ordinary comic collection — it is a large compilation of Robert Crumb’s most explicit, daring, and provocative underground strips, gathered in a single publication.
The book contains Crumb’s most outrageous and sexual strips — with a range of scenes, characters, and fantasies that in the original years were not always allowed to be published publicly due to their explicit nature.
• The works come from various underground magazines such as Snatch, Jiz, Zap, XYZ, Big Ass and Uneeda — titles Crumb himself contributed to at the time.
• The strips are chronologically arranged, with work from a broad span of his career, mainly from the late 1960s to the 1980s — supplemented with extra material not included in the original 1986 edition.
• In this edition, more than 100 pages of new material have been added on top of the original selection from the first 1986 edition. In short: you get a very broad insight into Crumb’s underground comics, including pieces that were never together in one book in earlier editions.
Hardcover binding with a sober black cover and a classic appearance.
• Printed on very thin “Bible paper” (hence the name), which gives a special feel and allows many pages in a compact format.
• Gilded edges and often a ribbon — as if it were a real Bible.
• The exterior gives nothing away about the explicit content — which for many people is part of the charm and irony.
Although the book is small, it contains a lot of imagery (comics on almost every page), and the print quality is generally high.
Revised + expanded: this edition contains more work and a chronological ordering than the original 1986 edition.
Collector’s item: the book is sold out / out of print and therefore sought after by collectors.
From underground classic to mainstream collector: a modern reissue makes the book attractive to both underground comics fans and art and comic collectors.
The book is in very nice condition!
