Description from the seller
Description:
This self-portrait reflects the artist’s journey through past traumas and migration, including experiences of abuse that shaped her path. The small floating faces surrounding the figure represent past identities she had to leave behind to reach her current self, while the vibrant blue hands extending from her shirt symbolize the grasp of these past hardships trying to hold her back. Despite these forces, the central figure remains calm, her single visible eye meeting the viewer with quiet resilience, conveying a sense of “I can handle anything.” The crown of thorns hints at sacrifice and endurance, while the layered combination of acrylic, oil, and charcoal adds depth and texture, reinforcing the emotional and symbolic weight of the piece. Signed by the artist in the lower right corner.
Short biography of the artist:
Born and raised in Russia, where art is a family tradition. Creating art for over fifteen years, Maya has studied at Balaev Art School №7, Rostov-on-Don, Russia (2008-2016), and trained under Larisa Ushakova, Russian painter and member of the Union of Artists of Russia (2016-2018). Participated in multiple exhibitions, including Art-Rostov (2016-2018) and “Mue v Centre” (2018), Russia, and MSIID (2019), Russia. Now based in Amsterdam, Maya creates works that bridge fine art and interior design, producing both sketches and large-scale paintings.
