Isaac Kniakov - Mickey: Eighth Ascension

In Mickey: Eighth Ascension, the artist transposes an iconic figure into a scene of pure intensity, captured at the apex of a jump suspended in time. The body is frozen at the apex of the movement, embodying power, determination and surpassing oneself.

The execution falls within an expressive post-impressionist aesthetic: visible brushstrokes, thick impasto, vibrant material and circular gestures infuse the composition with an almost palpable energy. The muscles are not described with academic realism, but sculpted by the paint itself — each trace becomes tension, each texture becomes movement.

The face, deliberately imperfect and treated in a pictorial manner, reinforces the human dimension of the work. The dramatic light, evoking an arena in turmoil, contrasts with a background suggested by blurred and dynamic shapes, accentuating the feeling of elevation and inner solitude at the heart of the tumult.
