DISTRACTOR #4
“Distractor #4” is part of Los Distractor, a collection of caricature portraits of every boy I have ever been in love with. From its inception, the series has been conceived as a wake-up call, a confrontation with the deeply rooted narrative that teaches women their ultimate purpose is to find romantic love. Instead, these works expose that pursuit as a powerful distraction: a diversion of time, energy, and identity away from becoming who we truly are.

Embroidered and painted on cotton twill, the piece carries a tactile, almost bodily presence. Thread pierces the fabric like a needle into skin; pigment settles into the weave like a tattoo. The portrait may appear tender or playful, but its title reframes it entirely: not a muse, not a soulmate, but a distractor. Through the slow, deliberate act of stitching and painting, attachment is examined and reclaimed. The work stands as both intimate confession and bold declaration of autonomy.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ine Agresta (1988) is a Uruguayan artist based in Sønderborg, Denmark, and her art is her way of understanding people, their behavior, and how the world works, in order to better understand herself. Growing up surrounded by curiosity and materials, she was always making and observing, a spirit that led her to fashion and textile design in Montevideo, where her interest in clothing as a language of identity brought early national recognition. Her path has intentionally wandered through Uruguayan handcraft traditions, a fully funded master’s degree in Art Theory in Beijing, and time living in Greenland, where vast landscapes reshaped her sense of color and presence. Today, living in Denmark, her work is vibrant and emotionally clear, blending archetypal ideas with personal stories to explore what connects us and what defines her.

Seller's Story

Ine Agresta is a Uruguayan artist living in Sønderborg, Denmark. Her art is how she make sense of people, their behaviors, and the way the world works, so that she can better understand herself along the way. She grew up surrounded by time, materials, and curiosity, always making things and always observing. That restless spirit led her into fashion and textile design in Montevideo, where her fascination with clothing as a language of identity earned her early national recognition. From there, her path wandered on purpose, moving deep into Uruguayan handcraft traditions, across the world to Beijing for a fully funded master’s degree in Art Theory, and later to Greenland, where living among endless shades of white quietly reshaped her sense of space, color, and presence. Today, her work is vibrant, bold, and emotionally clear, blending archetypal ideas with personal stories to speak about what connects us all. She creates as a way of participating in life, building intimacy through images, materials, and shared experiences, and loves opening that process through exhibitions, workshops, and conversations wherever her journey takes her next.
