Silvio Formichetti is an Italian painter, one of the leading exponents of contemporary Italian informal painting. He began his artistic career with portraits of female nudes and Abruzzi landscapes, then evolved, from the 1990s, toward gestural abstraction and informale. A fundamental influence in his development is American Action Painting (in particular Jackson Pollock) and figures such as Afro Basaldella, Emilio Vedova, Gianni Dova and Hans Hartung. Formichetti is known for the energetic use of color, intense painterly gesture, and a visual language that expresses deep and dynamic states of mind.
