Description from the seller

Beautiful sculpture depicting the head of Emperor Marcus Aurelius in the style of a fragment from the second century AD. The work was crafted using ancient sculptural techniques. The piece was found in the ancient Roman city of Tarraco (Tarragona, today in Spain). This head represents the emperor and philosopher Marcus Aurelius. He was the successor of Antoninus Pius, culminating in the so-called Golden Age of the Roman Empire, in power between the years 161–180 AD. His historical philosophical formation allowed him to confront a difficult realm, marked by invasions, epidemics, and betrayals by his generals. He carried out administrative reforms for the benefit of the neediest sectors of society. During the arduous military campaigns, he wrote his philosophical work in Greek, “Meditations.” The original piece is kept at the National Archaeological Museum of Tarragona, Spain, in the ancient Roman city.
