Description from the seller

Very refined and rare silver monstrance in neogothic style, manufactured in Paris by the renowned goldsmith Placide Poussielgue-Rusand (1824–1889), one of the leading makers of liturgical silverware in the 19th century.

This monumental monstrance testifies to an exceptional level of craftsmanship and artistic quality. The neogothic formal language is beautifully expressed in the rich architectural construction, the finely worked tracery, floral motifs and the harmonious rays around the lunula window. The proportions are perfectly balanced, which results in an impressive yet elegant appearance.

Placide Poussielgue-Rusand worked for churches, abbeys and cathedrals throughout France and beyond. His work is today in museum collections and is highly valued by collectors of religious art and 19th-century silverware.
