Description from the seller
This magnificent bronze triptych of Narcissus is a faithful reproduction of one of the most celebrated masterpieces of ancient sculpture, discovered in Pompeii and now preserved at the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli.
The sculpture depicts Narcissus in the timeless moment of contemplation before his own reflection. In Greco-Roman mythology, Narcissus embodies beauty, introspection, and the delicate boundary between self-knowledge and self-illusion. His poised posture and refined anatomy convey a sense of suspended movement and quiet intensity. The figure captures a universal and enduring theme: the tension between identity and desire, appearance and essence.
This bronze piece has been produced using the traditional lost-wax casting technique. It derives from a historical mould taken from the original at the beginning of the 20th century by the renowned Fonderia Chiurazzi of Naples. The foundry was internationally known for producing monumental works as well as refined reproductions of classical sculptures from major museums, supplying collectors and Grand Tour travellers during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
