A solid wood double‑sided speculaas board from circa 1900–1910, measuring 40 cm high, 16 cm wide and 3 cm deep, in good antique condition with minor signs of wear and age.
Description from the seller
An authentic piece of baking history with character and presence. This beautiful wooden speculaas board from the early 20th century is richly carved on both sides and bears maker's marks. A special collectible that will appeal to both vintage kitchenware enthusiasts and folk art and decorative-object collectors.
The board is crafted from solid wood and on both sides features a detailed depiction of traditional figures in traditional dress. The carving technique is refined and deeply cut, giving the figures a vivid and almost sculptural appearance. Through use and age the wood has developed a warm, honey-colored patina that only develops after decades.
Notably, the board is double-sided: a rarer version that was used in bakeries to efficiently produce multiple shapes. Both sides bear marks, underscoring authenticity and age.
Condition: good antique condition with normal signs of use appropriate to age and use. Small edge and wear spots contribute to the character and authenticity of this object.
A charming collectible, ideal as wall decoration, kitchen item, or as a supplement to a collection of baking and kitchen antiques.
