Description from the seller
New series – Contemporary photomosaics
Dark Icons series
David Law
Photographer-artist – Creator of contemporary images
Multidisciplinary photographer-artist, author and musician, David Law develops work focused on gaze, presence and the perception of the image in the urban space. He first became known for a series devoted to shop-window mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave rise to an art book published in 2021. Later drawn to the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he continues this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost living presence, questioning our relation to illusion and projection.
New series – Contemporary photomosaics
Since 2022, David Law has developed a new body of works based on artistic photomosaic and contemporary digital composition. Each creation is built from a multitude of visual micro-fragments generated using current graphic tools, then selected, structured and meticulously recombined by the artist. From afar, the image appears immediately legible, strong and assertive. Up close, it reveals a dense architecture composed of thousands of elements subtly interwoven. This work rests on a precise artistic direction, a methodical and rigorous construction, a sought-after balance between fragmentation and unity, a constant demand for visual quality and decorative impact. Through this series, David Law questions the making of the contemporary image and how numerous fragments can give rise to a coherent and unique work.
Edition & Production
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are made on aluminum with an integrated rear hanging hook. Printed on luminous white vinyl, mounted between two aluminum panels, with soft UV- and moisture-resistant lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, long-term resistance, color stability, and a modern, contemporary appearance.
Background
Since 2014, David Law participates in around twenty contemporary art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the official photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Parallel to his visual activity, he develops authorial and musician work including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the band FRENZY.
