Dark Icons Series
David Law
Photographer Artist – Creator of contemporary images
A multidisciplinary photographic artist, author and musician, David Law develops work focused on gaze, presence and the perception of image in urban space. He first made himself known through a series devoted to shop window mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Intrigued by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he extends this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost living presence, challenging our relationship to illusion and projection.
New Series – Contemporary Photomosaics
Since 2022, David Law has been developing a new body of works based on artistic photomosaic and contemporary digital composition. Each creation is crafted from a multitude of microvisual fragments generated with current graphic tools, then selected, structured and meticulously recomposed by the artist. From afar, the image appears immediately legible, strong and assertive. Up close, it reveals a dense architecture composed of thousands of subtly interwoven elements. This work rests on a precise artistic direction, a methodical and rigorous construction, a balance sought between fragmentation and unity, and a constant demand for visual quality and decorative impact. Through this series, David Law questions the making of the contemporary image and how a multitude of fragments can give rise to a coherent and singular work.
Edition & Fabrication
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by an authenticity certificate. The prints are produced on aluminium with integrated rear mounting. Printing on white luminous vinyl, mounted between two aluminium plates, with UV and moisture resistant flexible lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, long-term stability of colors and a modern, contemporary finish.
Background
Since 2014, David Law participates in about twenty Contemporary Art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the official photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Parallel to his visual activity, he develops personal work as an author and musician, including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
