Description from the seller
New Series – Contemporary Photomosaics
Dark Icons Series
David Law
Photographer Artist – Creator of Contemporary Images
Multidisciplinary photographer-artist, author and musician, David Law develops work centered on gaze, presence and the perception of the image in urban space. He first gained recognition with a series devoted to shop window mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superimpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave rise to an art book published in 2021. Later, intrigued by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he extends this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost lifelike presence, challenging our relationship to illusion and projection.
New Series – Contemporary Photomosaics
Since 2022, David Law has been developing a new body of works based on artistic photomosaic and contemporary digital composition. Each creation is built from a multitude of microfragments visual generated with current graphic tools, then selected, structured and meticulously rearranged by the artist. Seen from afar, the image appears immediately legible, strong and assertive. Up close, it reveals a dense architecture made of thousands of elements subtly intertwined. This work rests on a precise artistic direction, a methodical and rigorous construction, a sought-after balance between fragmentation and unity, a constant demand for visual quality and decorative impact. Through this series, David Law questions the making of the contemporary image and how a multitude of fragments can give rise to a coherent and singular artwork.
Edition & Production
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist's proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are produced on aluminum with an integrated back mounting. Printed on luminous white vinyl, mounted between two aluminum panels, with soft UV- and humidity-resistant lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, long-term color stability and a modern, contemporary appearance.
Career
Since 2014, David Law takes part in about twenty contemporary art fairs per year in France and across Europe. He is also the official photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Parallel to his visual activity, he develops authorial and musical work including three novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book and five self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
