Dark Icons Series
David Law
Photographer Artist – Creator of Contemporary Images
A multidisciplinary photographer-artist, author and musician, David Law develops work focused on gaze, presence and the perception of the image in urban space. He first made himself known with a series devoted to storefront mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave rise to an art book published in 2021. Then drawn to the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he continues this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost living presence, challenging our relationship to illusion and projection.
New Series – Contemporary Photomosaics
Since 2022, David Law has been developing a new body of works based on artistic photomosaic and contemporary digital composition. Each creation is built from a multitude of micro-visual fragments generated with current graphic tools, then selected, structured and meticulously recomposed by the artist. From a distance, the image appears immediately legible, strong and assertive. Up close, it reveals a dense architecture composed of thousands of subtly interwoven elements. This work rests on a precise artistic direction, a methodical and rigorous construction, a balance sought between fragmentation and unity, and a constant demand for visual quality and decorative impact. Through this series, David Law questions the fabrication of contemporary image and how a multitude of fragments can give rise to a cohesive and singular work.
Edition & Fabrication
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are made on aluminum with a built-in back hanger. Printing on luminous white vinyl, mounted between two aluminum plates, with UV and humidity-resistant soft lamination, ensuring excellent durability, great time stability, color stability, and a modern and contemporary look.
Career
Since 2014, David Law has participated in about twenty Contemporary Art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the dedicated photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Parallel to his visual activity, he develops a body of work as author and musician, including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photobook, and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
