Dark Icons Series
David Law
Photographer Artist – Creator of Contemporary Images
Multidisciplinary photographer-artist, author and musician, David Law develops a body of work focused on gaze, presence and the perception of the image in urban space. He first became known for a series devoted to storefront mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superimpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave rise to an art book published in 2021. Later drawn to the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he continues this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost living presence, challenging our relationship to illusion and projection.
New Series – Contemporary Photomosaics
Since 2022, David Law has been developing a new body of works based on artistic photomosaic and contemporary digital composition. Each creation is built from a multitude of micro-visual fragments generated using current graphic tools, then selected, structured and meticulously recombined by the artist. From afar, the image appears immediately legible, strong and assertive. Up close, it reveals a dense architecture made of thousands of elements subtly interwoven. This work rests on a precise artistic direction, a methodical and rigorous construction, a sought balance between fragmentation and unity, and a constant demand for visual quality and decorative impact. Through this series, David Law examines the making of the contemporary image and how a multitude of fragments can give rise to a coherent and singular work.
Edition & Fabrication
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are produced on aluminum with an integrated rear hanging system. Printed on luminous white vinyl, laminated between two aluminum panels, with soft UV- and humidity-resistant lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, long-term resilience, color stability and a modern, contemporary look.
Parcours
Since 2014, David Law participates in around twenty contemporary art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the official photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Alongside his visual activity, he develops a writer-artist career including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer and guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
