Description from the seller
Jordaens Leo
Leo Jordaens is a Belgian artist born in 1944 in Merksem and who died in 2000 in Antwerp. He was a painter. Son and pupil of Leon Jordaens; he subsequently developed autodidactically. Painted among other things landscapes, seascapes with boats, marine paintings, still lifes with flowers. His works are characterized by expressive masses of clouds and a striking play of light and color. From the press: ‘L.J. is a born colorist. He loves cadmiums, but works only in about three tones – for example red, yellow and blue – which build the painting completely (…) In his work nature lives, the open space. He has eliminated people. You see crops, trees (especially willows), haystacks, hooves that reflect themselves, ships, a bend in the river, the skyline of the city, the harbour mouth, the activity in the port, the industry and the winter atmosphere pass before your eyes. (1978) Signed L. Jordaens. He worked in Deurne. Mentioned in Two centuries of signatures of Belgian artists. (Piron)
