Description from the seller
Splendid oil painting on jute of the 1700s depicting Saint Teresa in a mystical prayerful pose. The painting has been restored. The frame is included as a gift and is from the 1990s. A painting carefully finished in every detail and complete with everything. It actually creates a scene where the Saint is engaged in prayer. The facial details are carefully rendered, the eyes expressing intensity, the nose, the mouth, and the hands joined in prayer. Splendid is the intense gaze in prayer, as if the eyes were directed to the sky. She is kneeling. Completed with the black nun’s habit with the white area around the neck and on the head to cover the parts of the body. A halo on the head. Completing the painting on the right are flowers in colors against a dark beige, while on the left a red drapery and a green table. The dominant color of the painting behind the Saint is brown. A painting where the mystical image of the praying Saint is highlighted without neglecting the details of the place where she is praying. I don’t know if it is Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, called Teresina del Bambin Gesù, who entered the Carmelo at a young age, famous for the Little Way of daily holiness, patroness of missions, or Saint Teresa of Avila, reformer of the Carmelite order, mystic and writer, founder of convents and inspirer of Carmelite spirituality. So when one hears about Saint Teresa in a religious context it is almost always certain that one is referring to a nun, often of the Carmelite order or inspired by it. She was religious, mystic, dramatist, Doctor of the Church. Being family paintings, I know the subjects depicted because they were told to me by my family. It comes from a private collection together with the others from the family palace, some of which I have sold. The painting measures 50 cm by 42 cm with a 1990s frame, while without the frame it is 39 cm by 31 cm. It is ready to be hung. A painting that harmonizes with a classic decor, perhaps hanging on a wall with other paintings or alone, or in a modern home given the beauty of the painting. Although it is a religious image, it is not a heavy painting. For shipping I use private couriers rather than the postal service because it arrives sooner, has double packaging, and communication is easier. Shipping costs vary depending on whether it is Europe in zone 1 or 2 such as the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Eastern European countries, or zone 3 such as Norway, Malta, and Cyprus, and the rest of the world. Customs duties will be borne by the buyer.
