Ferdinando Silvani attended the Ducal Academy of Parma where he received a solid training in drawing before dedicating himself to engraving. He also trained in chalcography, notably with Paolo Toschi, with whom he collaborated on the etching translation of the works of Correggio and Parmigianino. Silvani stayed long in Venice, where he created works of great beauty, representing splendid views of the lagoon city. On a small panel, a typical portal is reflected in the calm waters of the lagoon; a boat is lulled by a clear light that the painter Silvani, with a swift brushstroke, was able to render.
