Description from the seller
Beneath the Surface
166 × 135 cm
Mixed media on canvas
2020
Beneath the Surface explores the fragile boundary between exposure and concealment. A group of intertwined figures occupy the same pictorial space, yet each appears suspended within a distinct psychological interior. Their bodies are rendered with deliberate simplicity, fluid, continuous lines that feel almost instinctive, while the overlapping contours create a sense of entanglement rather than unity.
The tension emerges from this contrast: the calm, almost naïve physical outlines versus the restless accumulation of gestures and crossings that disrupt clarity. Faces are suggested rather than defined, identities blurred by movement and repetition. The composition becomes a visual negotiation between connection and isolation.
The figures share the same surface, yet no single narrative dominates. Gestures overlap, limbs intersect, and linear paths collide, reinforcing the idea that what lies beneath visible form is layered, unstable, and unresolved. The work resists fixed interpretation, instead inviting the viewer to confront the shifting boundary between exterior presentation and interior truth.
