Description from the seller
A curious and exceptionally rare book with a study in favor of or against the Bible aimed at all kinds of cults. The author's name is printed with asterisks to prevent revealing what his real surname was and to shield him from persecution. Sylvain Marèchal was a essayist and poet of atheistic beliefs and a political activist of the French Revolution. He was a precursor of utopian socialism and of communism, and also of feminism. He died in January 1803, two years after printing this copy. He was the author of the Dictionary of the Atheists, but in this book he seeks to make a critical examination of the Bible, concluding with the very clarity of the phrase that can still be heard everywhere today: moreover, the duty is to enlighten men who will kill in order to do it better.
