Description from the seller
Beautiful Edox Military Watch from the 1960s with Unitas “Wehrmachtswerk” Movement
A beautiful vintage military-style wristwatch from the 1960s made by Edox. The watch is powered by a reliable hand-wound movement produced by Unitas, often referred to by collectors as a “Wehrmachtswerk” type due to its robust construction and historical use in military watches. The watch comes with a nice textile strap that fits perfectly with the military character.
The story of Edox begins in 1884 in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland, when watchmaker Christian Ruefly-Flury founded the company. According to the well-known story behind the brand, Ruefly-Flury created a special pocket watch as a birthday gift for his wife. She was so impressed with the craftsmanship that she encouraged him to start his own watch company. The brand name “Edox” was derived from the ancient Greek word for “hour”.
Over more than a century, Edox became known for reliable Swiss watchmaking and several technical innovations. One of the most famous milestones came in 1961 with the introduction of the Edox Delfin, a watch that became a pioneer in water resistance. Thanks to its double caseback, double crown sealing system and patented O-ring technology, the watch could withstand water pressure up to 200 meters – an impressive achievement at the time.
The brand has also been closely connected to the world of sports. Edox has served as the official timekeeper for several international sporting events including powerboat racing championships, rally competitions and extreme sailing series.
This particular example represents the classic military style of the 1960s. The Unitas movement inside is still appreciated by collectors today for its durability, simple construction and ease of servicing.
The watch features a beautiful military dial with clear indexes and phosphor hands. The case is in nice condition with a screw-back steel caseback. The movement is working.
Size: 34 mm measured without the crown.
Swiss Made. Rare and highly collectible vintage piece. The pictures speak for themselves.
