Helmut Newton (1920–2004) was one of the most important fashion and portrait photographers of the 20th century. Born in Berlin, after his emigration he worked in Paris, Monaco, and Los Angeles for international magazines such as Vogue, Vanity Fair, and Elle. With his uncompromising, erotically charged visual language, he helped shape the visual culture of luxury fashion like few other photographers of his time.
Newton photographed for Chanel and Hermès, among others, creating imagery that showcased elegance, power, and sensuality. His distinctive style—cool, staged, and at the same time provocative—also influenced the aesthetics of other luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton and Patek Philippe, which still embody similar values of exclusivity and perfection today.
Today, his works are represented in the world’s leading museums and collections and are among the most valuable items in contemporary photography. Helmut Newton remains a synonym for luxury, femininity, and the art of staging.
