Description from the seller
Large Seated Buddha Sculpture – Bronze with Partial Gilding – Nepal – Late 20th Century – 5.2 kg
A beautiful and finely crafted seated Buddha sculpture made of bronze with partial gilding, originating from Nepal.
The Buddha is depicted seated in meditation on a richly decorated lotus base. The right hand reaches toward the ground in the classic Bhumisparsha Mudra (Earth-Touching Gesture), symbolizing the moment of Buddha’s enlightenment.
The sculpture features a serene facial expression and finely modeled details. The robe is elaborately decorated with ornamental and floral motifs, while the hair is rendered in the traditional small curls crowned by the Ushnisha, symbolizing spiritual wisdom.
The figure displays an attractive combination of warm copper-toned patina on the body and gilded decoration on the robe and base. This aesthetic is characteristic of decorative Buddhist bronzes from Nepal.
The sculpture is solid and heavy, indicating good casting quality.
The underside is hollow with an opening, which is typical for cast bronze Buddha statues.
