Description from the seller
Pair of frames with miniatures, Napoleon III style.
Period 1860-1880.
Romantic compositions in wooden frames carved with gilded gold patina.
The frames are made of light wood (probably linden), oval in shape and carved with “radiant leaves” typical of the Napoleon III style.
The irregular relief of the carved leaves in the wood adds the charm of authenticity to the frame décor.
The miniatures in the frames are fine oil paintings and gouache, behind convex (domed) glass, depicting an English romantic landscape (small frame) and a pastoral scene with mother and child (large frame), classic decorations valued under the Second Empire and the early Third Republic.
Two small cracks on the wood of the large frame and some surface wear due to age.
Large frame: height 17 cm, width 13 cm
Small frame: height 14 cm, width 12 cm.
