Description from the seller

An original oil painting by Belgian artist Lode Sebregts titled 'Sagitarius'.

51 x 60 cm

"Lode Sebregts (28 November 1906 - 18 June 2002) was a Belgian painter, watercolorist and draftsman of flowers, figures, nudes, portraits, cityscapes and still lifes. He was also a set and costume designer at the Royal Dutch Theatre of Antwerp. Until 1974 he was the poster designer for the city of Antwerp. Glass-painting behind glass, the églomisé, was not unknown to him either.

Sebregts studied at the Academy of Antwerp and the NHISKA with Isidoor Opsomer, Albert Saverys and Edward Pellens. Later he was connected as a teacher at SISA and Studio Herman Teirlinck.

Lode Sebregts was also a keen pipe smoker and was thus twice elected "pipe-maker of the year" by the Sinjoren-pijpeniersgilde. The work of Lode Sebregts is present in the Prentenkabinet, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts, the Maritime Museum and the AMVC in Antwerp."
