Expressionism Pop is the language that characterizes Lee Pop's works. It arises from the encounter between two apparently distant worlds: on one hand, the free and emotional gestures of Expressionism, and on the other, the immediate and recognizable universe of popular culture and collective icons.
In the Iconografie series, of which this work is part, the artist uses recycled cardboard, which is not only a common material but also a medium rich in creative potential and symbolic meaning.
Its modest nature and everyday origins make it an ideal vehicle for exploring concepts of renewal, transformation, and recovery.
Under the pseudonym Lee Pop we find Italian artist Ferdinando Califano, a prominent figure in the art scene since the 1980s. With a solid career and extensive experience behind him, in 2020 Califano embarked on a new creative journey. Driven by the desire to redefine his artistic identity, the artist created a collection of works that blends prints and paintings, drawing inspiration from the avant-garde of the 20th century. His creations unite a passion for street art with a love for modern and contemporary art, reinterpreting the soul of street art.
Far from traditional graffiti and vandalism, his street art becomes an expressive language that celebrates culture and art. Iconic images are transformed into contemporary furnishing accessories, capable of enriching spaces and inspiring new emotions.
