Description from the seller
A characterful and authentic Cologne stoneware jug from the 19th century, executed in the typical grey-beige stoneware with cobalt-blue hand-painted decoration.
This type of jug was produced in the Rhineland around Cologne and belongs to the most recognizable and beloved forms within European stoneware.
The jug features an elegant bulbous body with a narrow neck and a sturdy handle. The decoration is rendered in vivid cobalt blue and shows an expressive floral motif applied with free brushstrokes. The combination of natural stoneware and deep blue pigments gives a timeless, decorative appearance.
The surface shows the typical small inclusions and kiln marks that are characteristic of historic Cologne stoneware. The neck features subtle turning rings that emphasize the artisanal wheel-thrown manufacture.
The jug is in good antique condition. At the base there are a few chips and edge damage, visible in the photos. This kind of wear is common on items from this period and contributes to the authentic character of the piece.
A beautiful collectible for lovers of antique stoneware, Rhineland pottery, or historic utilitarian ceramics. Also very decorative as a standalone object in a classic, country, or wabi-sabi interior.
Dimensions:
Height 26.5 cm
Diameter 18 cm
Photos provide a clear view of the quality and are part of the description.
The whole item will be well packed and shipped with track and trace. The shipping costs also include packing materials and transport. Pickup is only possible when the lot sells for more than €50 and, of course, by appointment during office hours.
