Description from the seller
Beneath the surface
2022
166 × 136 cm
Mixed media on canvas
This work unfolds as a dense constellation of bodies caught in a moment of unstable coexistence. Multiple figures occupy the same pictorial field, yet none fully belong to a fixed identity. Their bodies are drawn with loose, almost instinctive lines, while the faces dissolve into thick accumulations of paint — smeared, layered, and partially erased. What appears at first as a collective scene gradually reveals itself as a psychological landscape.
The figures lean toward one another, overlap, merge, and interrupt each other’s space, suggesting a choreography of proximity and tension. Soft flesh tones and pale surfaces form a calm structural background, while sudden pink gestures cut across the composition like emotional currents passing through the group.
The drawing oscillates between clarity and collapse. Limbs remain linear and almost naïve, yet the heads become zones of painterly turbulence, where identity seems to melt and reform. In this unstable balance between line and mass, the work explores how individuals exist within a shared environment while remaining internally fragmented.
Rather than presenting a narrative, the painting proposes a condition — a collective body formed by overlapping perceptions, instincts, and internal conflicts. The composition becomes a field where presence is constantly negotiated, and where figures exist simultaneously as individuals and as parts of a larger psychological structure.
Shipping details:
Due to its dimensions (166 × 136 cm), the artwork will be delivered rolled in a protective cardboard tube to ensure safe international transport. Framing can be arranged locally according to the collector’s preference.
