Description from the seller
WILA Space Age Ceiling / Wall Light – 1960s/70s – Heavy Pressed Glass with Mirror – German Design
This high-quality ceiling or wall light was produced by the German manufacturer WILA and dates from the 1960s/1970s. Lamps from this period are characteristic examples of Mid-Century / Space Age design, known for their clear forms and high-quality materials.
The lamp features a thick, transparent pressed glass shade with a striking textured surface and deep relief structure. The heavy glass beautifully refracts the light and creates a fascinating play of reflections, casting decorative patterns onto the surrounding walls and ceiling.
A special feature of this lamp is the integrated mirror on the underside. The mirror sits slightly recessed within the glass structure, creating an interesting sense of depth. When the lamp is illuminated, the mirror reflects the textured glass pattern and enhances the diffusion of light, producing a particularly attractive radiating light effect and atmospheric reflections.
Dimensions
Diameter: approx. 28 cm
Height: approx. 11 cm
Weight: approx. 3 kg
Construction
On the mounting side of the glass there are three notches which allow the shade to be attached to the fixture. The glass is secured by firmly rotating it until it locks into place. This three-point twist-lock system provides a stable and secure mounting and is typical for heavier glass fixtures from this period.
Unlike some other lamps, this model does not use a spring mechanism.
The lamp was originally designed for permanent installation on a wall or ceiling. When installed in this way, the mirror faces downward, reflecting the light and enhancing the beautiful light patterns created by the textured glass.
Function
The lamp works perfectly.
A cord with on/off switch will be included, which was attached only to demonstrate that the lamp is functioning.
Mirror
The mirror is installed and was not removed by me. It appeared slightly movable, but I was not able to remove it in order to secure it further.
This is not unusual for lamps of this type. However, if desired, the mirror fixation can easily be checked or secured during installation.
Condition
Very good vintage condition with only minimal signs of age and use. Overall a well-preserved piece.
Shipping
The lamp will be packed extremely carefully using protective materials to ensure safe delivery.
Shipping will always be with tracking, so the delivery status can be followed at any time.
Although originally designed as a ceiling or wall lamp, it can of course also be used creatively in other ways if desired.
A stylish Space Age glass lamp from Germany, ideal for collectors and lovers of Mid-Century lighting design.
