Description from the seller
Offered is a decorative vase from the traditional manufactory Villeroy & Boch, made in Germany. The vase bears the well-known pattern “Paon” (French for peacock), a historic motif originally designed around 1900 in the Art Nouveau period and later reissued by Villeroy & Boch.
The present example is a later production from the second half of the 20th century, probably from the 1980s. It is not an antique original but a high-quality reissue of a classic Mettlach Jugendstil décor.
The vase was made of earthenware (faience). The pattern was created using the underglaze copperplate printing technique and was subsequently hand-colored. This combination of printing technology and handwork is typical for the high-quality Mettlach production and gives the piece its special character. The central motif shows a stylized peacock, complemented by finely wrought floral ornamentation.
The glaze is fully intact, even, and without flaking. There are no cracks, restorations, or craquelure visible. The colors are clear and well preserved. Overall, the vase is in a very good, well-kept, age-appropriate condition (see photos).
