Description from the seller
Traditional Caucasian horn “Kubachi” – 875 silver and natural horn (USSR, 1970s–1980s)
Weight: 121 g
Length: 25.5 cm
Width: 5.5 cm
Height: 5.5 cm
This magnificent drinking horn comes from the legendary village of Kubachi, in the Republic of Dagestan (Caucasus), famed across the Soviet territory for its millennial jewelry-making tradition. During the 1970s–80s, Dagestani masters produced some of the most refined decorative pieces of the USSR, and this horn is a perfect example of their craftsmanship.
The piece is crafted from natural cow horn, enriched with a mount of solid 875 silver, guaranteed by the official contrasts of the Soviet era. The appliques feature the classic Caucasian ornament incised in silver, with geometric and vegetal motifs characteristic of Kubachi, famous for their precision and deep cultural significance.
This type of horn was traditionally used in Dagestan and other regions of the Caucasus to drink wine, cognac or traditional beverages during family celebrations, weddings and ancestral rituals.
In addition to its functionality, it was a symbol of hospitality, nobility and family pride.
Excellent overall condition, with authentic patina and minimal signs of use appropriate to age. 100% original piece, no restorations.
Ideal piece for collectors of Soviet silver, Caucasian art or ethnography. A decorative object with a strong visual presence and high cultural value.
