This series follows the life of Lanny Budd, a globally traveling art connoisseur who, through his connections with politicians, industrialists and diplomats, becomes involved in the major events of the 20th century.
The books provide a particularly vivid portrayal of the period around World War I, the economic crisis, the rise of fascism and World War II. They are not only novels, but also an impressive historical panorama of Europe and America in turbulent times.
The third part of the series won the 1943 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.
