Description from the seller
New Series – Urban Legends
David Law
Photographer Artist – Creator of Contemporary Images
A multidisciplinary photographer-artist, author and musician, David Law develops work centered on gaze, presence and the perception of image in urban space. He first rose to prominence with a series devoted to storefront dummies, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superimpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Then drawn to the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he continues this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost lifelike presence, challenging our relation to illusion and projection.
New Series – Contemporary Photomosaics
Since 2022, David Law has been developing a new corpus of works based on artistic photomosaic and contemporary digital composition. Each creation is developed from a multitude of microvisual fragments generated with contemporary graphic tools, then carefully selected, structured and recombined by the artist. From a distance, the image appears immediately legible, strong and assertive. Up close, it reveals a dense architecture composed of thousands of subtly interwoven elements. This work rests on a precise artistic direction, a methodical and rigorous construction, a balance sought between fragmentation and unity, and a constant demand for visual quality and decorative impact. Through this series, David Law questions the making of contemporary imagery and how a multitude of fragments can give rise to a coherent and singular work.
Edition & Manufacture
Each artwork is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are made on aluminum with a built-in back mount. Printing on luminous white vinyl, mounted between two aluminum panels, with a soft UV- and humidity-resistant laminate, guaranteeing excellent durability, great long-term stability of colors and a modern and contemporary rendering.
Biography
Since 2014, David Law has participated in about twenty Contemporary Art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the dedicated photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. Parallel to his visual activity, he develops a writer-artist-musician practice including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photography book and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.”}{
