Description from the seller
Original painting "The Stilled Elk" marine abstraction - 2026
This painting, titled "L’élan figé" and signed by the artist Yves Decaudan, is a decidedly modern work that plays with geometric abstraction to evoke a marine landscape.
One can distinguish white triangles stretched upward, representing sails, which contrast with a more complex and fragmented base symbolizing the hulls and their reflections in the water.
The painting is divided horizontally. A wide black band separates the sky from a deep blue sea and a blue that leans toward cyan, creating a very strong graphic horizon line. "L'élan figé" perfectly lives up to its name. It captures the dynamic verticality of the masts ready to face the wind, while imprisoning them in a serene and almost meditative stillness. It is a work that prioritizes visual emotion and the purity of the lines over narration.
Painting by the Breton painter Yves Decaudan - 1954
Acrylic on cotton canvas, wooden frame, unframed, dimensions 80 x 80 cm
