Description from the seller
GIOVERDI (Mario Verdini, 1960), born in the south of Apulia, bases his artistic research on a structured dialogue between memory and contemporary vision. The academic formation, marked by the study of Byzantine iconography and the experimentation with ancient painting techniques—from encaustic to egg tempera—constitutes the matrix of a path that leads to oil painting. The result is a mature and personal language, in which tradition and contemporaneity establish a harmonious dialogue. His paintings are articulated in landscape compositions set in architectural settings characterized by a marked symbolic value and a strong symbolic tension, placed in a dreamlike and atemporal dimension, suspended between illusion, dream and reality. His works, ranging from sacred art to contemporary, are present in monasteries, religious centers, private collections and galleries in Italy, Europe and the United States.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PAINTING
"The City of the Long Cypresses" represents an imaginary urban landscape built through a rigorous formal geometric synthesis. The architectures, reduced to essential volumes and marked by red roofs, layer into an almost labyrinthine and ascensional composition that suggests a Mediterranean village in a visionary key. Among the houses emerge slender cypresses, which introduce a dreamlike and contemplative dimension, creating a dialog between nature and architecture. The uniform light of the sky amplifies the dimension of the work, transforming the city into a suspended space, where memory, silence and imagination merge into a timeless landscape."
