A very fine antique 4/4 violin, labeled Io D. Nicolaus Amati fecit Bononiae 1725. The instrument is in ready to play condition with tears, wears, only one small repair to the left f-hole, new fine rosewood set up and old Bausch bridge. The violin has straight high grained spruce of the top and one piece back of softly flamed maple with matched sides and scroll. Quite high arching, flutings to f-holes. The purfling is professionally executed, the edges are masterfully done. Deep brown varnish over golden ground remains in good condition.
