Description from the seller
Renzo Morandi was born in Sassuolo, in the Modena province, in 1924. As a child, he moved to Ravenna where he showed early artistic talent in the Galassi family workshop, well-known artisans who worked on decoration and finishing. In 1938, he was sent to Rome as the best painter-decorator of the Ravenna province, thus receiving official recognition of his artistic abilities.
Morandi began to devote himself to painting by attending the studio of Luigi Varoli in Cotignola, one of the main figures of the so-called "Bassa" for the human and artistic aspects of his life. Varoli was also a teacher at the Scuola di Arti e Mestieri of Cotignola and at the Scuola di Disegno of Massa Lombarda, in addition to being a double bass graduate from the Regia Accademia Filarmonica of Bologna in 1931. In 2002, he was recognized as a "Righteous Among the Nations" by the State of Israel for humanitarian action on behalf of Jews hunted by the Nazi-fascists after the armistice of 1943.
After the war, Morandi continued his intensive exhibition activity, participating in numerous group shows and receiving many awards and recognitions. His first solo show was held in 1959 at the Ravenna Chamber of Commerce, while in the following decades he also exhibited in Rome, Milan, France and Australia. In 1995, he held a solo show in Munich. In 2004, on the occasion of his ninetieth birthday, he was celebrated with anthology exhibitions in Ravenna and Sassuolo. In 2011, a calendar was dedicated to him by the Cassa di Risparmio di Ravenna, accompanied by an introduction by Franco Gàbici.
Morandi’s painting remained faithful to its original figurative matrix, while experimenting with the new trends of contemporary art.
The painting in question dates to 1989, titled "Dead Pheasants".
Small signs of aging at the level of the signature visible in the photo.
Original wooden frame.
Overall dimensions with frame: 75 x 65.
Dimensions without frame: 54 x 64.
