Description from the seller

Ancestral couple sculpture – Hand-carved wood – Lobi / Senufo – West Africa

Hand-carved wooden sculpture depicting a couple seated on a bench, with a symmetrical and serene composition. Both figures display stylized features: closed eyes, elongated faces, and bodies of simplified forms, characteristics of traditional African sculpture linked to symbolic representations of fertility, union, and the balance between the masculine and the feminine.

The piece is carved from a single piece of wood and presents a warm patina acquired with the passage of time and handling. Geometric details on the base and the minimalist treatment of the face and body reinforce its sculptural and ritual character.

This type of paired figures is often associated in various African cultures with representations of ancestors, founding couples, or principles of fertility and communal harmony.

A decorative and ethnographic piece with a strong aesthetic presence, ideal for collectors of African tribal art or for interiors with character.

Material: carved wood
Origin: Africa (probably West Africa)
Condition: good overall condition with signs of age and use in keeping with its age
Technique: hand carving in a single piece
