“Horizons in Flight” This work belongs to the series begun in 2025 dedicated to the view of Earth observed from above, a painting cycle in which the landscape is not depicted descriptively but interpreted as energy, movement, and the tension between natural forces. The composition centers around a powerful vertical red axis that crosses the canvas like a column of energy, evoking telluric phenomena, eruptions, or atmospheric currents connecting sky and earth. Around this dynamic hub unfolds an abstract landscape seen from a near-satellite perspective: chromatic surfaces, stratifications, and painterly gestures suggest reliefs, continental masses, and atmospheric turbulence. The sky, dominated by azure and luminous blue tones, opens up as a vast, unstable space, animated by bodily interventions and golden marks that recall illuminated clouds or light reflections on the planet's surface. The lower part of the canvas introduces a dark, deep mass evocative of terrestrial morphology, pierced by sudden chromatic explosions of red, green, and blue.
EXHIBITION REART 2026 - From the critique to the January 2026 REART show: Peddio's painting alternates spontaneous gesture and compositional control, creating a continual tension between chaos and structure. The result is a landscape not geographic but mental and energetic, where the Earth becomes a living organism observed from a cosmic distance. In this perspective, the work does not merely represent a territory but suggests the perception of a planet in constant transformation, seen as a dynamic system of forces, matter, and light.
Michael Peddio: My free expression is not confined by a preconceived idea, but channeled through color and form as the only tools, a return to a primordial form of art. The absence of drawing is to me the prerogative of the artwork’s indeterminacy at birth; as in life and especially in the times we live in, there can be no certainty of outcome for any situation. My painting evolves from a white canvas to an unpredictable finale. For me there is only acceptance of art as an unpredictable and uncontrollable process.
Michael Peddio has taken his first steps since childhood, inspired by his father Riccardo, a painter. The turning point comes around age 30, thanks to meeting master Teobaldo Cattini, a Reggio painter of the Macchiaioli school, who opens the doors to painting. A great source of inspiration and strength from the former boxer painter. In 2012 the meeting with artist Barbara Nicoletto, his partner, opens the doors to his second artistic season and artistic maturity. Between 2013 and 2014 painting begins to take on an inner meaning. Figurative begins to give way to introspection. Inner strength takes over and the canvas becomes a slash, with the passing years increasingly free of filters, increasingly free of reluctance to show one’s I. Strength and weaknesses are shown without shame. The man is naked, without masks.
In April 2016 he is noticed by critic Daniel Buso and, together with his partner Barbara Nicoletto, he exhibits in: The Museum in the Window, a Bipersonal show at the CA’ DEI CARRARESI Museum in Treviso, a very important location rarely granted to an emerging artist.
In 2018 Michael Peddio reaches painterly maturity. His paintings are free from conditioning, expressing with harmony and beauty the raw reality the artist wants to show. We find strength and harmony. We find positivity even in tragedy. We find beauty.
Also since 2018 the artist collaborates with Galleria REART, opening up to the art world and interacting with other artists on the national scene. We see him exhibit and also curate shows. He founded, together with artist Barbara Nicoletto and Giorgio Ferretti, the movement of the Chromatists. They gather in a Factory, a place of dialogue and work.
In 2020 the meeting with Angela Lazzaretti, owner of Radium Artis Gallery, is a great source of exchange with the national art world for Michael Peddio. The exhibition in Pietrasanta at the Radium Artis Gallery was his debut in meaningful art at 46 years old, giving him the visibility his works deserve.
In 2021 the meeting with critic and curator Alberto Navilli opens another steep evolutionary path, seeing his art grow ever more along the road of an ever more raw and uncompromising spontaneity.
