The works arise from an artisanal and experimental process that makes each canvas unique. The surface is meticulously prepared and enriched with selected natural papers and material insertions, creating an irregular, three-dimensional base rich in texture that enhances the structure of the canvas. Subsequently this surface is worked in an uneven way using mixed media, in which water-soluble pastels play a central role, creating layers, transparencies and contrasts in dialogue with the material beneath. Each work reflects a balance between technical control and material spontaneity, marking the artist's transition from a consolidated digital practice to a more tactile, artisanal and material approach.
Giulia Piras begins her studies at the Faculty of Biological Sciences due to her interest in naturalist themes. However she opts for a change of pace toward the Academy of Fine Arts, where she had the opportunity to deepen and apply her passion for scientific illustration. She continues her studies specializing in Illustration at ISIA in Urbino. Today she lives in the Marche countryside in Italy, surrounded by the Apennines, oak woods and flowering meadows. She collaborates with publishing houses, magazines, companies and advertising agencies. She is selected for the Renner Prize for Contemporary Art. In 2021 she wins the competition "Digital Inclusion" organized by Posterheroes. In 2025 she is selected for the Annual of Image Authors and for the BRAW (Bologna Ragazzi Award) Amazing Bookshelf.
Color differences may be due to lighting conditions, monitor settings or the camera used. The actual color tones may therefore vary slightly from those displayed on the screen.
Some images are photomontages created for purely illustrative purposes. The proportions and dimensions represented may not precisely correspond to the real ones of the artwork.
