VANTA, Aporia, oil on canvas, 180 x 130 cm, 2026, original edition, hand signed, blue contemporary portrait from Austria, sold direct from the artist.
Description from the seller
“Aporia” (2026)
Oil on canvas
180 x 130 cm
A female figure in strict side profile emerges from deep blue, her features carrying the idealized precision of classical sculpture. Her hair rises and coils above her in elaborate masses - and from within it, a serpent forms, its body continuous with the curling locks until the head breaks free, reaching forward in the same direction the figure faces. VANTA has carved this entire composition from a single blue foundation through paint removal alone, the boundary between hair and snake deliberately uncertain.
The removal work traces the serpent’s head with the same attention given to the face - jaw, eye, the forward thrust of its direction mirroring hers. Represented by S-Gallery and available on Catawiki. They share an orientation without sharing a nature, the figure composed and still in profile while the creature emerging from her extends toward whatever lies beyond the frame.
The ambiguity is the work’s core - whether the snake belongs to her, grows from her, or simply becomes her at a certain point where hair ends and something else begins. In blue, the distinction dissolves entirely.
Shipping:
The work is delivered without a frame (professional packaging, rolled in a tube). it can easily be restretched by a professional or on your own, this is also cheaper then the otherwise increased cost of shipping when sending paintings of this size stretched
The measurements indicated are those of the painting stretched and mounted on a frame (The actual
measurements of the canvas are larger to allow it to be mounted on a frame 2-4cm thick.
