Description from the seller
AUTHOR
Bruno Francisco Dente (1944) Argentine painter naturalized as Italian. Born in Buenos Aires, he trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in the Argentine capital before moving to Italy in the seventies, settling in Verona. His artistic research is of an abstract matrix, with an exuberant chromatic palette, a heritage of his homeland.
The deep bond with his cultural roots found its fullest expression in the famous 1974 show at the Cinquetti Gallery in Verona, titled "Cronache di Bustos Domecq" and curated by the prestigious critic Giorgio Cortenova. In this cycle of works, Dente paid homage to the paradoxical imaginary of Jorge Luis Borges and Adolfo Bioy Casares, translating on canvas the suggestions of their famous collective literary pseudonym. Besides this fundamental milestone, his career has been marked by numerous exhibitions in prominent art centers between Veneto and Friuli, such as Studio d'Arte G.R. of Sacile, consolidating his position as a refined interpreter capable of dialoguing painting with the great literature of the twentieth century.
DESCRIPTION
"Chromatic and Geometric Structure", oil on canvas, 48*53 cm with frame, 25*30 cm the canvas alone, 1980, signed and dated bottom right.
The canvas presents itself as an articulated compositional grid divided into nine rectangular compartments, each of which hosts a microcosm of abstract shapes and symbolic signs. Within this rigorous partition, Bruno Dente inserts a variety of geometric elements that seem to float in autonomous spaces: concentric polygons in green shades, distinct diagonals that cut the space into blue and light-blue fields, and an orange sphere dominating the lower right corner next to a towering columnar form. A sort of stepped structure or jagged profile runs vertically through the right section, suggesting an architectural dynamism that breaks the regularity of the checkerboard background.
From a technical and compositional point of view, the work reveals a learned hand that alternates flat and saturated fields with areas of delicate tonal shading, where the canvas texture remains visible, enhancing the pigment’s materiality. The chromatic play is vibrant and rhythmic, characterized by a studied counterpoint between warm reds and oranges and the coolness of blues and grays, all harmonized by an orange perimeter framework that serves as an inner frame and visual glue. The composition is not a mere exercise in formal balance, but a spatial exploration where each cell lives with its own internal tension, yet contributes to the overall architectural unity.
The work sits in Dente's full maturity phase. In this piece, the exuberant chromaticity typical of his Argentine roots fuses with the rigor of European abstract research. An organic yet balanced composition painting, visually captivating in its aesthetic impact.
CONDITION REPORT
Excellent overall condition. The work is intact in every part with vivid and legible color and brushwork. The frame is to be understood as a complimentary.
Tracked and insured shipping with appropriate packaging.
