Description from the seller
925/1000 silver brooch, the brooch is a Zeeuwse knop (Dutch sea button).
The Zeeuwse knop has a history dating back to the end of the seventeenth century, the time of Michiel de Ruyter. Men wore the buttons on their shirt, coat, or at their collar as a 'throat button'. Later, women wore it as well as jewelry, for example as a mutspeld or as a brooch. The buttons were made of silver or gold and were at the time a status symbol: the larger the button, the richer and more important the wearer.
Diameter: approx. 32 mm.
Assay mark: 925
Quality: wear and usage traces corresponding to age and use. For your own impression, see photos.
